Chuy's Bitterness

                                                   

                                                    

        In the book “Motorcycle Ride on the Sea of Tranquility,’’ Patricia Santana, describes her feelings and thoughts about the returned of her brother Chuy affected herself and the family.  Yoli a 14-year-old girl who comes from a Mexican family and lives in San Diego, Ca.  Yoli couldn't understand what really was happening to her brother but she wanted him to be the old Chuy. The author realizes how different her brother was than before going to the Vietnam War. The scene in which Chuy had cut in pieces the USA flag was something that really got my attention. I think this scene is so important because you can know that Chuy doesn't feel proud of his country.  I realize how much the hatting was toward his country. Chuy aggressive actions were not what the family expected but the family knows therefore is a reason of his actions.  

Pete Comic Strip

     
    It was summer vacations, in which Pete only slept for vacations. Also, he would stay awake very late night playing his favorite video games. Peter was a boy who was lazy and never woke up early.  Every morning his mother would struggle to wake him up. In the same way every morning his mother would enter his room right before afternoon. But Pete wouldn't even move or respond to her. However, this morning was different she told him that he had to get used to wake up early, because soon he will start school.  Then Pete respond to his mother to relax. He had everything figured out. In addition, he told her that the more hours he slept before school starts, the earlier he would wake up by then. In fact, his dad thought that it was a brilliant idea of Pete. Immediately, his mother ran up to her husband and questioned him about Pete's brilliant idea. Along with, Pete's father said that the idea was brilliant in a stupid way. As a result, Pete yelled to his parents from his room to slow their voice down because he was sleeping.    

The Circuit

      One of my favorite books, is named " The Circuit." the author name Francisco Jimenez. I read this book when I was in middle school, living in Bakersfield, California. I can connect with this book because it remind my of my parents.One of my friends told me to read because the knew my family situation. My parents have always been really hard workers. The fields were like their second home because they were always there. I only saw them a few hours at home, then I went to school. I had to take care of my little brother and house. I helped my mother with the house duties, cooking and washing. It was so hard for me to be to keep up with school. My teachers always did the best to help me out. I had to move to different places in California, following my parents work. The hardest thing for me was going to new schools every single time we moved. I hate it, but all I could think was that my parents were working for us. My parents made sure we didn't need anything but, what we needed was their time. I felt tired of the same thing over and over for years. My little brother would always asked me when would our parents would take us for summer vacation. I had no answer because it was so hard for my parents to stop working. My childhood was around fields, and all kind of fruits and vegetables. I remembered I always took fresh fruit to school for snack. Once a I got sick at school and my mother was called to picked me up. The next day some students were making fun of me because my mother was dressed with clothing field the day she came for me. I answer to them that I had the best mother and I was proud of her that she was a hard-working woman. With tears in my eyes I ran out of the class and the teacher followed me. All I could think was that I wasn't ashamed of my parents. From that day on, that made me strong person, who was raised with a hard working parents. I will always remembered this book because it made me realize how hard to for immigrants work out in the fields. I recommend this book to those who are raised like me, who feel proud of being from a hard working family.

Betty Friedan

  Back in the 60's Betty Friedan was an important leader who did many things to support the feminist movement. Friedan did more than write about confining gender stereotypes. She became a force for change. Pushing for women to have a greater role in the political process, she co-founded the National Organization for Women in 1966, serving as its first president. She also fought for abortion rights by establishing the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws in 1969. Additionally, with other leading feminists such as Gloria Steinem and Bella Abzug, Friedan help create the National Women's Political Caucus in 1971. 

NEVER STOP DREAMING

                   

       When I was a High School student I didn't thought of all the changes I was soon going to face. Being a student and also take care of my house as one of my daily routine was so difficult. No one could understand the feelings of a young girl who had responsibilities as an adult. My parents as always, they worked from day to night every single day. The lack of communication between my parents and me affected me a lot as to my little brother In addition, the divorce of my parents, was the worst thing that could ever happen to my little brother and me. My life was worst, I couldn't handle school and the problems at home between my parents. From there on, I knew that there was going to come a big change. I realize how important was for me to be prepared for my own adventure in life. 

      As a lesson I learned so much from my parents. I now understand them why they worked so hard for us. Because the lack of communication, I learned the importance of communication between our family is the key to succeed. I never said that my parents were bad, but they were tough. They did the person who I am today. I feel proud of my parents, my family and myself. Not all decisions were correct but they did take me to the correct path. Now, as a college student, mother and wife I can say that every new day is another chance to change your life. Never stop dreaming.
